Actua is taking part for the third consecutive year in the Smart City Expo World Congress held at Fira de Barcelona on 13, 14 and 15 November 2018, presenting new innovation projects with the presence of 8 Andorran companies. The Actua’s stand will open on Tuesday, November 13th at 4 p.m. The event will count with the Education Minister, Eric Jover, the Economy, Competitiveness and Innovation Minister, Gilbert Saboya, the Secretary of State for Economic Diversification and Innovation, Josep Maria Missé, the directors of Actua Empresa and Actua Innovation, Judit Hidalgo and Marc Pons, and several Andorran businessmen. Later, Minister Jover will participate in the round table, ‘Social inclusion: Building commons cities for all’.

Actua’s stand has 120 square meters and has space available for 8 companies from the Principality that will be able to show their projects to the thousands of people attending the fair. Participating companies in this Edition are Andorra Telecom, Electric Chain, FEDA, Full Secure, NAOS, NP Technology, TDA and Sóc Creatiu. Actua has put companies in contact with representatives form many international delegations such as Austria, Scotland, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.

Projects that can be seen in the Actua’s stand are the following:

Casa de la Muntanya

A model of Andorra to show the potential of Casa de la Muntanya. It is a Living Lab worked jointly by the public administration, professionals from the business world and researchers to develop solutions for mountain management. It will analyse snow layers, the use of mountain routes and their shelters, how to improve the efficiency of artificial snow cannons… It is a project promoted by the Comú d’Ordino, with the support of Actua, the Observatori Andorrà per la Sostenibilitat (OBSA) and the Centre d’Estudis de la Neu i la Muntanya d’Andorra (CENMA).

TerMITes Sensors

The Actua stand will also present the TerMITes sensors that collect data linking human behaviour with energy consumption. 80 sensors have been deployed in an Andorran school to collect data inside the building. The project has an educational and interactive component, teaching students about the use of sensors and how to interact with them. It is a project developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Actua.

‘Arbres al Vent’

This is the winning proposal project presented for the 2018 Participatory Budget campaign, which consists of a renewable wind energy system using facilities that simulate trees. Each can produce up to 3 kW of instantaneous power and 1900 kwh in a year. The electricity generated will be used for public uses (street lighting or equipment, etc.). The proposal was presented by a teacher from the Andorran Primary School of Andorra la Vella, as a result of work carried out in the classroom on renewable energies. The idea is to install Arbres al Vent throughout the country.

The Smart City Expo World Congress, in data

The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), is the main international event on intelligent cities. It will be held from 13th to 15th November at Fira de Barcelona, Gran Vía venue.  Representatives from 700 cities such as Amsterdam, Athens, Atlanta, Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Geneva, New York, Rome, London and Yokohama will be attending. This eighth edition will be attended by 840 exhibitors and more than 400 speakers who will analyse how to undertake initiatives that seek to transform cities into better places to live.

The show is a great international showcase for the latest technologies in the field of urban transformation. Alstom, Bosch, Cellnex, Cisco, Dassault, Deloitte, FCC, Ferrovial, FiWare, Hexagon, Huawei, Indra, Mastercard, McKinsey and Microsoft are among the 840 exhibiting companies in this edition.
