The Trustees of the Actua Tech Foundation presented the new entity on Tuesday to the members of the cluster of Innovation. The Actua program organized this session at the Congress Centre in Andorra la Vella. The presentation was made by the Secretary of State for Economic Diversification, Josep Maria Missé, the CEO of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, the CEO of Forces Elèctriques d’Andorra (FEDA), Albert Moles and the Rector of the University of Andorra, Daniel Bastida.
The Secretary of State for Economic Diversification, who introduced the event, talked about the challenge of integrating in the same entity the “two main drivers in the field of technology in the country,” such as Andorra Telecom and FEDA, also with the University of Andorra as a knowledge partner. Such collaboration “had never took place.” Missé recalled that the Foundation was created to develop the project “Smart Country” with two main points: to provide solutions for mobility and the management of the so-called big data. He also stressed that in the mid-term, the four Trustees must give way to a total of six, incorporating the private sector.
Moles said that the Foundation should serve to better know how to use the technology of real-time data when sizing mobility, using safe and reliable methods. In this regard, he referred to the use of simulations when sizing infrastructure such as car parks or in the field of public transport. Missé summarized that “we must understand the mobility model to output projects that can help mobility issues” in the future.
Nadal has referred to the need to “build an orderly and intelligent lot of information”, offering the possibility of using storage systems across the business sector in the country. It is being done already, according to Nadal, with the platform ‘Andorra Go!’, which aims to continue to evolve with the latest technological advances.
Bastida has shown the importance of the UdA working closely with the Foundation from the management and the knowledge transfer perspective.
Regarding the strategy with the actors of the Foundation, Andorra Telecom wants to join efforts with Actua Tech in order to diversify activities and include the concept of public accountability, consolidating at the same time the services being provided by the company itself. In addition, they want to continue to promote the concept of Smart Country via the Wi-Fi Andorra and the Andorra Go! Application.
FEDA, which aims to get the best possible cost of energy to boost the country’s competitiveness and produce more energy in Andorra, may provide better services to citizens of Andorra, taking advantage of the Actua Tech synergies.
The University of Andorra, as a public institution of higher education and research in serving the country, will be able to provide knowledge and institutional relations in the field of innovative technology projects that may have a positive impact in Andorra. In addition, knowledge, relationships and projects may improve the educational and research mission of the university.
