The arrival of Grifols in Andorra, the Ibero American Summit recently celebrated in the country, the managing of the Covid-19 crisis, the innovative projects and business opportunities in the Principality, were the center of the intervention given on Monday afternoon by the Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, Jordi Gallardo, to the Círculo Ecuestre of Barcelona.
In attendance were the delegate of the Spanish Government in Catalunya, Teresa Cunillera, the president and the vice-president of the Círculo Ecuestre, Antonio Delgado and Enrique Lacalle, as well as over 40 business people from the Catalan capital, who also showed interest in the strategy for economic diversification by the Government of Andorra and the requirements for starting a company in the Principality.
Gallardo highlighted that despite last year´s crisis, foreign investment already represented 5,5% of the country´s GDP and explained that the 11 priority sectors of the diversification strategy were blockchain, fintech, E-commerce and E-sports, Health&wellness, biotechnology, sport, education, audiovisual production, Greentech and agriculture. He also made a reference to the projects of a Customs free zone and digital transformation, as well as the future opening of regular flights from the airport in la Seu d’Urgell.
With regards to the country´s future challenges, the Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, mentioned the negotiation of the association agreement with the European Union and the improvement of communications, by promoting the airport in La Seu and the feasibility studies carried out on the arrival of a railway and the Heliport project.
The business people also showed interest in tax competitivity, political stability, judicial security and the quality of life on offer in Andorra. In this sense, Gallardo explained that a digital economy law is being drafted that will be entered into parliament in the month of June, with the aim of retaining and attracting talent of a high added value to the country. On Monday the Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, also held various work meetings with companies Connected to the sector of electric mobility, innovation and research.
