The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gilbert Saboya, met this Monday with the Portuguese Secretary of State for Food and food-processing Industry Research, Nuno Brito Vieira, who is visiting the Principality for promoting Portuguese products in a large retail chain from Andorra.

Saboya and Brito have discussed on the possibilities of economic cooperation between Portugal and Andorra, in this case focusing on the primary sector. Specifically, both representatives agreed to participate together in activities to promote agricultural products in future fairs and gastronomic events.

Brito also met with experts from Health and Agriculture Departments to issue the strategy of internationalization and market openness to non-EU markets. These meetings allowed a better understanding on the food-processing Industry’s situation and to identifying the best practices in each country.

The Secretary of State for Economic Diversification, Josep Maria Missé also met with Brito, to share experiences with Portugal around food-processing and tourism. Both Secretaries of State already held a first meeting during the last Andorran economic mission held in Portugal last May.

In recent months Andorra has been conducting various activities to promote opportunities for economic cooperation with other countries, like the event of economic opportunities Andorra – Portugal. The session was jointly organized by the Government of Andorra, the AICEP (Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Andorra, and allowed to establish contacts between Portuguese and Andorran companies.
