The ActuaTECH Foundation, whose board of trustees are the Government, Andorra Telecom, FEDA and the University of Andorra has begun work to develop a national big data, a platform that enables multi-sectorial collect data for the improvement and development of different services. The big data is the technological platform on which the smart country project, carried on by the foundation, is based.
This week work began with research teams from technological public companies -Andorra Telecom and FEDA – and the University of Andorra and a research team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The first working day was held at the facilities of the University of Andorra.
The managing director of FEDA, Albert Moles, welcomed the opportunity of working with a global big data, optimizing investments and generating synergies, instead of having specific ones created by each trustee. This big data platform will enable the development of tourist and commercial applications. New projects on mobility and environment are also contemplated allowing technology companies to generate projects with high added value.
Moles stressed this morning the multiple possibilities of big data for development and efficiency of services. Moles showed some of the applications that can be found on energy with higher efficiency, lowering costs, reducing dependence and lowering environmental impact.
In this sense he detailed some of these apportunities like efficient management and control of electrical devices, the possibility of sharing the consumption and production of a number of customers in a neighborhood or block, managing supplies and prices or battery charging stations.
The co-operation with MIT will extend to other projects of the ActuaTECH Foundation and will be an important flow of knowledge between the research teams of this leading American University and the students and professors of the UDA.
