During the month of August, The IRONMAN Group announced the Andorra Multisport Festival, to be held in 2021. A festival of sports and nature that will start in March, with the Andorra Winter Triathlon, until July. This event has been selected to host the Winter Triathlon World Championships in 2021 and expects to receive athletes from all over the world for a high level competition in Andorra.

“When you think of an excellent combination of tourism and sport, you think of Andorra. The country may be small, but it lives with great passion for sports and sporting events,” says Stefan Petschnig, IRONMAN’s General Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Hosting the Winter Triathlon World Championship in 2021 with the selection of sports offered by the Andorra Multisport Festival will attract not only athletes, but also families and friends from all over the world, and Andorra can undoubtedly offer an exceptional competition and great circuits “.

Andorra is ideal for the Winter Triathlon World Championship. Circuits around Naturlandia, with 800 hectares of forests, an altitude of 2,000 metres and abundant snow every winter make this area idyllic for competitions and training in cross-country skiing, mountain biking and trail running. .

” This designation is therefore great news for Andorra. Not only does it certify the quality of the organisation and its infrastructure for hosting some of the world’s most important events, but we also foresee a great media and economic impact with the arrival of hundreds of international athletes who will meet there to compete,” said Jordi Gallardo, Minister of the Presidency, Economy and Businesses. “I am convinced that this event will be another step towards making Andorra a reference place for endurance sports at an international level”.

For her part, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Silvia Riva, added that “many athletes from the country will have an event of the highest world level which will allow greater visibility and professionalisation of these sports” and stressed that hosting this world championship “once again consolidates Andorra as a leading country with the capacity to organise the best sporting competitions during the four seasons of the year”.

“For the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria it is an honour to host a competition of these characteristics within the framework of the Andorra Multisport Festival. It is also a challenge, both for the municipality and for Naturlandia, because a Winter Triathlon World Championship is a high-level event and therefore involves certain demands. However, we are convinced that we will be up to the task, as a country and as a parish. It will mean an important boost for the cross-country skiing slopes of La Rabassa and, in general, for Andorra’s Nordic skiing”, says Josep Majoral, Cònsol Major de Sant Julià de Lòria.
