The Government of Andorra adjudicated on Wednesday October 20th, the public tender for the launching of new routes from the Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell airport to Madrid, to the company Air Nostrum (Iberia)which will begin to operate on the 17th of December.
The sum budgeted by the administration is for a maximum amount of 630.000 euros, which will be reduced depending on the route´s real number of passengers. According to the Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, and president of Andorra Business, Jordi Gallardo, the first return flights will be every Friday and Sunday in the afternoons, and on exceptional dates operations will be increased to accommodate demand.
Tickets will be sold within the OneWorld framework, and therefore can offer tickets with Andorra as a place of origin and destination from all continents. For instance, one will be able to travel to New York, stopping over in Madrid, with just one ticket and checking luggage just once.
